
BMO Private Bank surveyed wealthy Americans and found that those in California are more than twice as generous as those in other states.The bank's online survey found that wealthy Californians plan to donate an average of $17,698 compared to the average rich American, who plans to donate $8,485.
Religious institutions, health programs, disease research, children's charities and education are among the most popular causes they're supporting. More than half the money donated, 51 percent, goes to religious institutions.
