AUGUSTA, Maine, July 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Three towns in York County, Maine are ranked among the ten most expensive destinations in the United States for travellers. That finding is the result of a new survey from CheapHotels.org.
The survey compared hotel rates for all U.S. destinations for the main summer holiday period of July 1 through August 31.
The fifth most expensive U.S. destination according to the survey is Old Orchard Beach. To enjoy this Maine locale, travelers will have to spend $192, on average, for the most affordable double room. Only slightly cheaper are two other York County towns, Kennebunkport and Ogunquit.
Their average summer rates are $184 and $183 respectively, ranking them seventh and eighth most expensive in the nation.
The most expensive destination according to the survey is a Massachusetts location, Provincetown. At this coastal resort town, which is located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod, travelers will have to pay an average of $217 for the most affordable double room this summer.
